Mt. Suswa

Mt. Suswa is a huge double-crater volcano which created a large, raised plateau. Along the crater, there are a couple of campsites right at the rim, each with absolutely stunning views. Spending a night here is worth the trip itself, but one can combine it with beautiful hikes around the crater, either partially or a full round trip (7-9 hours).

Expert tip: Our local Maasai friend Zack lives in the village on top of the plateau. He organizes boda boda (motorbike) trips from the main road to the campsite. You can either drive yourself or as a passenger. It takes about 1,5 hours. You’ll arrive at the campsite dusty and extremely ecstatic! He is also open for you to visit his home and experience the real traditional Maasai culture. Highly recommended!
